Diaspora Digital Media understands that Fecafoot President Samuel Eto’o is preparing to run for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) presidency in the upcoming elections set for March 25, 2025.

Although Eto’o has yet to make an official announcement, there are strong indications that he will enter the race.

The football legend, according to impeccable sources, has sought the guidance of former CAF President Ahmad Ahmad as part of his preparation.

In addition to his CAF ambitions, Eto’o is reportedly grooming his trusted advisor, Mongue Nyamsi, to succeed him at Fecafoot, favoring him over current first vice president, Celine Eko.

The current CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is angling to run for a second term after his unopposed election in 2021.

While Eto’o’s candidacy is generating significant buzz, some football stakeholders have raised concerns about his eligibility due to recent controversies bordering on his alleged overbearing attitude and non-tolerant of dissent.

Eto’o was recently fined for ethics breaches by CAF, casting a shadow over his potential bid for the presidency.

Eto’o career in retrospect

With a storied career spanning over two decades, Samuel Eto’o’s achievements on and off the pitch have cemented his status as one of Africa’s greatest footballers.

Eto’o’s rise to prominence began on the dusty streets of his hometown, Nkongsamba, where his love affair with football first blossomed. His talent and determination earned him a spot at Kadji Sports Academy, where he honed his skills before joining Real Madrid’s youth ranks.

This marked the beginning of an illustrious journey that would take him to the pinnacle of success.

Throughout his career, Eto’o’s impact on the pitch was nothing short of phenomenal.

He played for top-tier clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Everton, winning numerous titles, including two Champions League trophies.

His impressive goal-scoring record, which includes 350+ goals, solidifies his position as one of the greatest strikers in football history.

However, Eto’o’s influence extends far beyond the pitch. He has been a vocal advocate for African football development, supporting initiatives to improve infrastructure and training programs.

His charitable foundation, the Samuel Eto’o Foundation, provides education and healthcare services to underprivileged children.

Since retiring from football in 2019, Eto’o has remained active in the football world.

His election as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation in 2021 underscores his continued commitment to shaping the future of African football.

Through his leadership, Eto’o aims to revitalize the sport in his homeland, providing opportunities for the next generation of footballers to thrive.
