Akwa Ibom College of Education Provost hails Governor on road project
The Provost of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Prof. Daniel Udo, has commended Governor Pastor Umo Eno for initiating the construction of a 5.2-kilometer internal road and 2.5-kilometer drainage system within the college community.
“The project commencement is a prayer answered, owing to the fact that the College, since its establishment in 1991, has suffered from a poor internal road network until the intervention by Pastor Umo Eno,” Prof. Udo stated in an interview.
He further noted that the project underscores Governor Eno’s commitment to educational advancement, emphasizing that “it’s only a person like Pastor Umo Eno, with a clear-cut educational advancement policy as encapsulated in his Arise Agenda, who is committed to the reformation of primary, secondary, and tertiary education in the state.”
Prof. Udo also expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress, remarking that “the project is going well; I am very appreciative of the Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, for committing the funds to construct the internal roads and making the project a reality. With His Excellency, I know and I am very sure that the project will be completed and commissioned on record time.”
Prof Udo attributed the success under his administration to the massive support of his management team. He also thanked the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet for her tireless efforts in ensuring all documents needed for the approval and release of funds for the project were presented to the Governor.
The Director of Works and Transport, Arch. Anietie Ukpanah, also praised the governor for the project, observing that “it’s a thing of joy for the college, noting that the project came many years after the institution was established in 1991.” He said his department and Nsik Engineering are working hand-in-hand for effective service delivery and assured the management of his commitment to ensuring standard is maintained in line with best practices
However, Prof. Udo appealed to the state government to review the contract funding, considering the current economic situation, to ensure the project’s successful completion. He urged, “I therefore appeal to the contractor not to allow the water from the drainage to empty into the stream, to prevent environmental and health hazards on the lives of the inhabitants.”
