Anambra State citizens have expressed shock and dismay following a recent revelation that the state is eleventh on external debt profile, a departure from what it was before the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano assumed office.
Currently, fears are that Obiano may collapse the state and leave it similar to other distressed states like Osun et al.
By March 17, 2014 when former governor, Peter Obi left, Debt Management Office (DMO) had always put Anambra’s debt at 3 Billion Naira.
However, according to the report by Mr. Eneh Victor Chigozie, Anambra State is over 60 billion Naira neck deep in debt.
Meanwhile, documents obtained from DMO and made available to Elombah.com show that Anambra receives average of 3.7 billion naira federal allocation monthly.
Ironically, Anambra has now moved from a debt- free state that Obi handed over with excess of over 75 billion naira cash.
It has become to a state with debt of 60 billion Naira, in little over two years.
In the meantime, Mr. Chigozie dared Obiano to deny the massive borrowing with substantial documents if he’s sure of being maligned.
Mr. Chigozie also uncovered that some of the roads he Obiano is currently constructing are with borrowed money.
However, the gov’s media kept misinforming the public that Obiano is paying workers and building flyovers without borrowing.
Now that Obiano’s secret borrowing have been exposed, the governor is urged to disclose Anambra’s new debt profile.
Afraid that Obiano will collapse the state, Mr. Chigozie vowed that he will be voted out come 2017 during the upcoming state governorship election.
Reacting to the revelation, Mr. Nnamdi Ezewuzie, who expressed disbelief said:
“Obiano is putting this state into serious trouble and some idiots who share in this keep deceiving Ndi Anambra.
“More reasons why Willie must be shown the way out come next year is really becoming evident and broader.”
