Angola’s 10th Banana Fair Closes with High Hopes For Market Expansion
The 10th edition of Angola’s banana fair has come to a close in Buengo Province, after four days of exhibitions, discussions, and festivities.
The event brought together local farmers, associations, cooperatives, and industry representatives from across the country to explore market expansion opportunities and showcase their production strengths.
Maria Antónia Nelumba, the governor of Bengo province, emphasized the importance of investing in banana processing to capitalize on the entire production chain.
Hélder Cardete, a representative of Novagrolíder, expressed the company’s commitment to producing and conquering new markets, with a focus on exporting to countries like Europe, South Africa, Namibia, DR Congo, and Russia.
Angola is the largest banana producer in Africa and the seventh largest in the world, with an annual supply of over four million tonnes, Diaspora Digital Media understands.
The fair exceeded organizers’ expectations in terms of attendance and earnings, with visitors like Ester Jamba expressing satisfaction with the affordable prices and quality of bananas on display.
First-time exhibitor Celma noted the strong competition in banana production on the continent, but remained optimistic about the fair’s outcome.
The success of the banana fair is a testament to Angola’s potential for economic growth and development, with the sector expected to continue playing a vital role in the country’s economy.
