A member of the House of Representatives representing the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in Plateau State, Mr. Ajang Iliya, has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is coming after the Labour Party lost six of its members in the House to the APC.
His defection letter was read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tajudeen Abbas, on Thursday.
Iliya’s letter of defection, cited the ongoing leadership face-off within the opposition party and disagreements over the party’s stance on key national issues as reasons for his departure.
According to the lawmaker, he could no longer align with the party’s position, making it challenging to continue under its platform.
Before now, six other members of Labour Party who defected to APC include: Tochukwu Okere (Imo), Donatus Mathew (Kaduna), Bassey Akiba (Cross River), Iyawe Esosa (Edo), Daulyop Fom (Plateau), and Daniel Chollom (Plateau).
Each cited the party’s leadership crisis and a desire to contribute effectively to national development as their reasons for joining the APC.
