ZAMFARA STATE — The Nigerian Army has intensified counter-terrorism operations in Zamfara State, killing several suspected terrorists and recovering weapons during coordinated raids on identified hideouts across multiple communities.

Military authorities confirmed that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle armed groups responsible for insecurity in parts of northwestern Nigeria.

The targeted raids were carried out in strategic locations believed to be strongholds of criminal networks involved in banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural settlements.

Troops reportedly engaged the armed groups in intense exchanges, leading to the neutralisation of multiple suspects and the recovery of arms and ammunition.

Weapons seized during the operations included firearms, locally fabricated rifles, and other military-grade equipment used by the criminal elements.

Security sources stated that the operations were based on credible intelligence, which guided troops to the specific locations of the hideouts.

The Nigerian Army emphasised that the offensive forms part of a broader strategy to restore peace and stability in Zamfara and surrounding states affected by persistent insecurity.

Residents of affected communities have reportedly begun to experience improved security presence as military patrols continue in the region.

The army also noted that clearance operations are ongoing, with troops combing surrounding areas to prevent regrouping of fleeing suspects.

Security analysts say Zamfara has remained one of the most challenging hotspots in Nigeria’s fight against banditry, requiring sustained military pressure and intelligence-led operations.

The latest offensive is seen as part of renewed efforts by security forces to degrade the operational capacity of armed groups operating in forested and remote areas.

Authorities have encouraged residents to continue providing useful information that could assist ongoing security operations while assuring them of protection.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining offensive pressure on criminal networks until lasting peace is achieved in the region.

Officials also highlighted the importance of collaboration between security agencies and local communities in achieving long-term stability.

While progress has been reported in several operations, security challenges persist, with armed groups adapting tactics to evade detection.

The military says it will continue sustained operations across Zamfara and neighbouring states as part of nationwide efforts to curb insecurity.

As operations continue, attention remains focused on whether intensified military action will lead to lasting improvements in safety for affected communities.
