The military Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, has exonerated an individual who was previously reported as a suspected terrorist after comprehensive investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist organisation.
A statement signed by Acting Military Information Officer – Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, on Thursday, said the individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was taken into custody by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation that followed the attack on Cross Kauwa.
According to the military, the arrest was carried out in line with standard operational procedures due to the security challenges in the area and the frequent use of border routes by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
The command explained that subsequent intelligence assessments and investigations established that the suspect had no connection with any terrorist group.
The statement noted that the investigation identified Zein-Nur as a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, who is engaged in camel rearing across the River Komadougou.
“Comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes did not establish that the individual has any affiliation to any known terrorist group. Investigations further confirmed that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger who engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou,” the statement said.
Following the outcome of the investigation, the command announced that the individual had been completely exonerated of any terrorism-related allegations.
“Operation HADIN KAI has consequently cleared the individual of any terrorist links. The Theatre Command reiterates that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and appropriate security screening to ensure that innocent civilians are distinguished from terrorist elements,” the statement added.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining counterterrorism operations while maintaining professionalism and respect for the rights of civilians.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights, and the rule of law,” the statement said.
