Bashir El-Rufai, a former critic of Peter Obi, has admitted that his views on the ex-governor have changed.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had strongly opposed Obi’s presidential bid in 2023.

He revealed that his negative perception of Obi was influenced by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), his former party.

Obi, a former Anambra governor, gained national attention for his 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party.

His candidacy represented transparency, economic reform, and youth empowerment, attracting widespread support from professionals and young Nigerians.

However, Obi faced opposition from the ruling APC, including Bashir El-Rufai, who was a vocal critic during the campaign.

Bashir recently expressed a surprising change in his perspective on Obi through a post on his official X handle.

He acknowledged that APC members had influenced his former stance, leading him to wrongly perceive Obi as an unsuitable candidate.

“Peter Obi is surprisingly not a bad person after all,” Bashir wrote in his post.

“My views on him have changed recently,” he added in his statement.

“My mind was poisoned by my former party members. Sai Obi!” Bashir concluded.

Bashir’s revelation has sparked speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

His father, Nasir El-Rufai, officially left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday.

This move has intensified rumors of a potential alliance between Nasir El-Rufai and Obi for the 2027 elections.

Political analysts believe that such a collaboration could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.

Obi remains a strong opposition figure, consistently advocating accountability, governance reforms, and economic policies favoring national development.

During the 2023 elections, Obi finished third behind President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Despite losing, he maintained relevance in national discourse, frequently criticizing government policies and suggesting alternative solutions.

His popularity among Nigerians, particularly youths, remains a major factor in future political calculations.

Bashir’s admission underscores how party politics often shape individual opinions and political narratives.

Observers see his statement as a possible signal of shifting allegiances within Nigeria’s political space.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Obi’s role in shaping Nigeria’s future continues to attract public and political attention.
