Behind the Viral Video: What Really Happened During Angela Okorie’s Police-Escorted Jog

The Nigeria Police Force has initiated an internal investigation into a widely circulated video showing Nollywood actress Angela Okorie jogging in public, flanked by armed officers.
The video, which quickly went viral, drew mixed reactions from the public, with many questioning the appropriateness and legality of the police presence.
In the footage, Okorie appears to be casually jogging while at least two visibly armed officers follow closely behind, drawing criticism over the misuse of state security personnel.
In response, the police, through Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, June 25, strongly condemning the officers’ actions.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.
Adejobi further confirmed that the force had commenced administrative procedures to identify the officers involved and determine the circumstances surrounding the video.
He noted that appropriate disciplinary actions would follow once the internal review concludes.
While the actress has yet to publicly address the controversy, sources familiar with the situation have linked the video to a possible behind-the-scenes shoot for her upcoming movie project, Queens of Guns, which she recently began promoting on social media.
The police, however, maintained that regardless of the context, uniformed officers must adhere to established protocols and avoid conduct that might undermine the credibility of the force.
The video has sparked heated discussions online.
While some social media users condemned the act as an abuse of public resources, others argued that celebrities are often targets and may require extra protection.
Reactions from X users ranged from criticism of the police’s priorities to calls for better enforcement of officer deployment guidelines.
As of now, the Nigeria Police Force has not revealed the identities of the officers or whether they were officially assigned to the actress.
The outcome of the investigation is expected in the coming days.
