Sharon Okpamen, Nollywood actress, dies after childbirth

Nollywood actress and producer, Sharon Okpamen, has tragically passed away on August 25, 2024, nearly a month after giving birth to her second child.

The news of her death was first confirmed by Jackreece Daniel on his Facebook page. He wrote:

“Nollywood actress and producer has passed on. She was in coma after childbirth and couldn’t make it alive.”

The Great Edos platform also shared the somber news on Facebook, stating:

“Sharon Okpamen has unfortunately passed on. It’s a sad day for Nollywood and the Edo entertainment scene.”

On July 31, Sharon had joyfully announced the arrival of her second child, naming her Osarhuese.

On her Facebook page, she had written: “To God be the glory. Osarhuese is here.”

Sadly, she went into a coma following the birth and was unable to recover.

About Sharon Okpamen

Sharon was a talented Nollywood actress and filmmaker, born on February 16, 1989, in Abudu, Edo State, Nigeria.

She spent her early years in her hometown, where she attended Mary Milek Nursery and Primary School and later, University Preparation Secondary School (UPSS) in Benin, Edo State.

For her higher education, she enrolled at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to study English Language.

She began her journey in the Nigerian film industry in 2010, with her debut in the movie “Touch Not My Crown”, which featured her alongside the well-known actor Late John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu.

Over the years, she became a prominent figure in Nollywood, appearing in over 100 films.

Some of her notable works include “Night Hustlers”, which she also produced, showcasing her versatility as both an actress and a filmmaker.

Her contributions to Nollywood, particularly in representing the Edo State entertainment scene, were significant.

Sharon’s work in the industry was not just about acting but also about bringing stories to life through her production efforts.

“Sharon, who was a filmmaker, actress, entrepreneur, & humanitarian, has left a significant void in the industry.”

Fans on social media have also expressed their grief and shock. A user named @princeselena on Instagram noted:

“She was in a coma after childbirth and didn’t make it out alive… It’s well.”

Another user, @akpajosephine, commented: “Chai… so sad, fresh young beautiful lady like this …Rip.”
