Boko Haram destroys transmission line 3 weeks after restoration
Suspected Boko Haram members in the wee hours of Sunday, destroyed the 330kV transmission line connecting Damaturu and Maiduguri, just three weeks after its restoration by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The destruction of the transmission lines according to security analyst and counter insurgency expert, Mr Zagazola Makama was done with the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around 2am.
The unfortunate attack by the criminal elements, led to widespread power outages in Maiduguri and nearby regions.
Mr Makama berated TCN for its decision to openly announce the restoration of power on social media, labeling it “unprofessional” and “dangerously counterproductive.”
He warned that such disclosures could attract further attacks from terrorist groups.
The security expert expressed concerns about TCN’s communication strategy, suggesting that the company failed to apply lessons from previous incidents and lacks effective crisis management skills.
