Danger ahead, by Assam Abia

Pemium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known in Nigeria as Patrol is the propeller that navigates the economy.

Today, the product is being sold between #1,900 and #2000 per liter in some cities in Nigeria.

This morning, the roads and streets of Uyo and Eket in Akwa Ibom State were virtually empty. Vehicular movement was minimal. Signifying what i may term as “compulsory economic curfew”.

Nigeria is presently on the verge of self annihilation. People are beginning to trek to work, churches and mosques in empty stomach. Food prices which had shown signs of cascading has suddenly jumped up.

There are no signs that the price of petrol and other petroleum products will come down, soonest.

It may be sold permanently for #1,500 per liter, even with the coming of Dangote Refinery. Cooking gas has jumped to #1,400 to #1500 per KG, in almost all the cities in Nigeria.

I sense danger ahead. The silence that has trailed this sudden upsurge in the price of petrol and other petroleum products is too ominous to ignore. Nigerians have never been this silence before.

Looks like the chuckle has touched the wind pipe, giving them no air to utter a word. Even at that, i still sense danger.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his allies in the 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 should not underrate and interpret the speechlessness of the people to mean subjugation.

Distribution of free Rice to the people will never solve the problem. It is even primitive to do it.

The advent of the social media has made things different and difficult for the slave masters to have a free ride in their business of economic enslavement.

The market woman in Warri or Sapele, can view through her Android phone, if she can’t read, of what is happening in Lagos and Abuja.

The youths no longer need to go to the newspaper stand to update themselves of the latest happenings in the country. The Android phone is there for them.

This quietness of Nigerians over the recent price of petrol should worry the Federal government. 𝐈 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑.

When it happens, bullets and teargas will not quench the fire. IMF and the WORLD BANK, regulated by the West under the Washington Convention, who are now pulling the strings with laughter and joy will be too scared to intervene. Something should be done now and now. The silence is too ominous to be ignored.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠. 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫.
