Suspected terrorists have launched a deadly attack on two churches in Kaduna State, killing at least seven people and abducting several others during Easter celebrations.
According to report, the assault occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Ariko community, located in Kachia Local Government Area, throwing residents into panic.
Officials said the attackers targeted First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, opening fire on worshippers gathered for services.
Mark Bawa, the councillor representing Awon Ward, confirmed the incident, noting that casualty figures are still being verified. Initial reports suggest that between seven and eight people were killed, while many others were taken into the surrounding bush.
“The attackers came in large numbers, surrounded the area, and began shooting sporadically,” he said, adding that poor telecommunications in the community may have delayed any emergency response.
Residents reported that the gunmen operated for an extended period without resistance, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities in the region.
The latest violence comes just weeks after a similar attack in Kurmin Wali, also in Kachia LGA, where worshippers were abducted during a church gathering.
Security authorities are yet to release a full statement as of press time, but the incident has renewed calls for stronger protection, especially in Southern Kaduna where such attacks have become increasingly frequent.
More details are expected top emerge.
