Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a Juma’at Mosque in Gamboru Ward, near the Customs area, in the heart of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The explosion occurred at about 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday while Muslim worshippers were observing the Maghrib prayer, eyewitnesses said.
Details surrounding the incident remain sketchy as of press time. However, residents who spoke with Channels Television via telephone said that several worshippers were feared killed or injured in the blast.
