BREAKING: President Tinubu changes cabinet, dismisses 6 Ministers

President Ahmed Bola Tinubu made significant changes to his cabinet, dismissing six ministers and nominating seven new ones to fill the vacant positions.

Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced this development at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

It was made known in a statement released after the Federal Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by President Tinubu.

The presidency announced that Tinubu approved eight key actions to optimize his administration’s efficiency and deliver on his promises to Nigerians.

The statement read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the immediate implementation of eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency, pursuant to his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians.”

The ministers who lost their positions are Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Uju Kennedy Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Mohammed Gwarzo (State for Housing), Jamila Ibrahim (Youth Development), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), and Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs .

Notably, some of these dismissed ministers were part of Tinubu’s original 46-member cabinet, which was inaugurated on August 21, 2023 .

To replace them, President Tinubu has nominated seven new ministers.

This includes Bianca Ojukwu, the wife of late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, for confirmation by the National Assembly.

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, widow of the late Biafra leader Odumegwu Ojukwu, brings significant experience to her new role, having previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Affairs under President Goodluck Jonathan and as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana and Spain.

Jumoke Oduwole, who was nominated as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, previously served as Tinubu’s Special Adviser on PEBEC & Investment.

These nominations aim to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the cabinet.

 

The list of the President’s nominees and the proposed positions includes

  • Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
  • Mrs. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
  • Mr. Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment.
  • Mr. Idi Maiha to the newly created Livestock Development Ministry.
  • Mr. Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
  • Hon. Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
  • Dr. Nentawe Yilwada will replace Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

Furthermore, ten ministers were reassigned to new ministerial portfolios, rounding out the significant changes to Tinubu’s administration.

The ministers with new designations include Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Morufu Olatunji Alausa, Senator John Owan Enoh, amoung others.

Current Designation: Minister of State, Education

New Designation: Minister of State Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction

2. Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa  

Current Designation: Minister of State, Health   

New Designation: Minister of Education

3. Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo

Current Designation: Minister of State, Water Resources and Sanitation

8. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim

Current Designation: Minister of State, Police Affairs

New Designation: Minister of Women Affairs

9. Ayodele Olawande|

Current Designation: Minister of State for Youth Development

New Designation: Minister for Youth Development

10. Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye

Current Designation: Minister of State, Environment

New Designation: Minister of State, Health.
