Buhari orders probe into Rivers Nass elections tribunal

I have directed the President of the Court of Appeal and the Attorney General to look into the issues raised by the PDP – Buhari

 

Following the petition to President Buhari by the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] over alleged bribery of some tribunal judges, the President has ordered an immediate investigation into the activities of the tribunal.

President Buhari who spoke on Christmas eve, said, “I received a petition with recorded telephone conversations from the PDP, over an alleged bribery of the judges.

And I have directed the President of the Court of Appeal and the Attorney General to look into the issues raised by the PDP. 

The judiciary is supposed to be the last hope of both the rich and poor man. And a situation where courts of equal standing begin to give conflicting judgements, then it means things are not right. 

This is what we criticized in the previous administrations, so we can’t be the ones manipulating the judiciary now. I know what I have suffered in election tribunals in the past.

Now, I hear one court is saying card reader is part of the electoral act, another court is saying it’s not. 

When I was inaugurating the INEC chairman, he told me that the card reader failed in all the elections, and that they will improve. 

With this kind of petitions and judgements, it means my election too would have been cancelled because of the card reader. And this is unacceptable” 

The President further reassured Nigerians that his government will never interfere in the judiciary, and nobody should carry out any hatchet job in his name.

“I have not instructed anyone to approach any judge to manipulate any judgment to favour APC, and any judge found to be corrupt, will face the music,” the President concludes.
