The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) is set to host another edition of its virtual civic engagement program known as the People’s Parliament.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), the session provides a platform for public discourse on critical socio-political issues affecting Nigerians.

The event is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM Nigerian Time, via Zoom.

Participants can join using this link:

Meeting ID: 893 3900 3224.

Passcode: 426132.

The virtual forum will dissect three trending national issues affecting Nigeria’s democracy, security, and justice system.

First on the agenda is the growing menace of armed Fulani herdsmen in several parts of the country.

The session will question Nigeria’s security architecture and whether silence from security institutions indicates compromise or helplessness.

Communities continue to suffer attacks, displacement, and killings, with minimal visible intervention from federal security agencies.

Analysts will evaluate how government responses—or lack thereof—reflect broader failures in national protection.

The second topic focuses on the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP) and the emerging strength of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Recent Supreme Court rulings have caused confusion, raising questions about political stability and credibility within opposition politics.

Participants will debate whether the ADC can provide a stable and credible alternative to the troubled Labour Party.

The third major story involves Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the young boy seen in a viral Lagos photo beside Peter Obi.

He is now reportedly in prison over an alleged theft charge, sparking outrage and renewed focus on justice.

The session will examine Nigeria’s criminal justice system, especially how it treats the poor and vulnerable citizens.

COPDEM says the case reflects systemic issues such as prolonged detention, lack of fair trials, and abuse of legal processes.

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) is a pro-democracy organization promoting civic awareness and democratic accountability in Nigeria.

It was formed in response to declining civic freedoms, rising authoritarianism, and political manipulation in Nigeria’s democratic space.

Through its People’s Parliament, COPDEM provides citizens a voice in national dialogue on policy and governance.

The organization advocates for transparency, human rights, good governance, and active public engagement in the democratic process.

Previous editions of the People’s Parliament have tackled election integrity, police brutality, youth unemployment, and constitutional reform.

COPDEM calls on Nigerians both at home and abroad to join the April 10 session and contribute meaningfully.

The group believes informed public discourse is essential for holding leaders accountable and strengthening democratic institutions.
