ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two commanders of the Ansaru terrorist group, Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba, to life imprisonment for terrorism offences, the Office of the National Security Adviser has confirmed.
The court found both men guilty of engaging in terrorism activities, including membership in a proscribed terrorist organisation, providing support to terrorists, and participating in acts of violence against civilians and security forces. Justice John Tsoho, presiding over the case, handed down the sentences after the prosecution presented substantial evidence linking the convicts to the leadership and operations of the Ansaru group in Nigeria.
Ansaru, which is an offshoot of Boko Haram, has been responsible for numerous attacks and kidnappings in Nigeria.
