Cuba Issues Stark Warning to US Over Drone Report

Share this:

Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel has warned that any United States military action against Cuba would trigger what he described as a “bloodbath,” sharply escalating tensions between Havana and Washington.

In a statement shared on social media platform X on Monday, Díaz-Canel insisted that Cuba poses no threat to the United States and accused Washington of pushing a narrative that could be used to justify military intervention.

His comments came in response to a report by Axios, which cited classified intelligence alleging that Cuba had acquired more than 300 military drones and had explored possible plans to target the U.S. naval base at Guantánamo Bay, American military vessels, and areas around Key West, Florida.

Cuban officials have dismissed the claims, saying they amount to fabrication.

On the streets of Havana, reactions were mixed but defiant. Some residents said they would resist any external attack despite the country’s worsening economic conditions, including fuel shortages and frequent electricity outages.

Cuba has long had a strained relationship with the United States, but tensions have intensified in recent weeks amid fresh allegations and renewed political pressure.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated that the country retains the right to defend itself under international law, while urging respect for its sovereignty.

The exchange marks another sharp turn in already fragile relations between both countries, with rhetoric on both sides growing increasingly forceful.
