Davido receives backlash from fans after flaunting US election ‘I voted’ sticker

The American and Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido has received backlash from fans after flaunting his US ‘I voted’ sticker.

Davido on October 5, took to his official X formerly Twitter page to post a picture of him holding his “I voted” sticker, stating that he has expressed his franchise in the US for the first time.

According to the Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), Davido’s recent post didn’t quite sit well with many Nigerians, who felt he wasn’t as vocal about the 2023 Nigerian presidential elections as he is now.

“The backlash stems from perceptions that Davido, as a prominent figure, should have used his platform more effectively during the elections,” Pulse reported.

Reactions of Nigerians on X

numerous users of X flooded Davido’s comment section, criticizing him for allegedly not casting his vote in Nigeria instead he is proud of voting in the US election.

A fan posted “this guy is a hypocrite, you’ve never cast a vote in any presidential election in Nigeria, but now you’re seeking approval from Americans.”

Another X user wrote, “You fit vote for yankee presidential candidate but you can’t vote for Nigeria presidential candidates, una just useless for this so called yeyebrity… make yankee ppl dey support u if dem don dey banta u for Twitter like that.”

Popular Nigerian Social media personality, Daniel Regha wrote, “Davido where was this energy during this Nigerian general election?”

“U didn’t show proof of vote, didn’t show any kind of support to voters, or even bothered to use ur platform to call on the INEC when there were reports of electoral malpractices across the country.”

“But now, you are proud to come out and tell us that you cast your vote for the first time in the US”

“Are you proud to vote in the US election? This is not the achievement you think.”

Another X user asked, “In your entire life? Not even in Nigeria?”

Who is Davido?

David Adedeji Adeleke was born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer.

David hails from Ede, Osun State, in southwestern part of Nigeria, but was raised in Lagos.

Davido attended British International School in Lagos, and studied Business Administration at Oakwood University in Alabama, USA, but dropped out to pursue his music career.

OBO, influenced by Nigerian legends Fela Kuti and Sunny Ade, experimented with various genres before settling on Afrobeats.

Omo baba olowo as fondly called was born by Mr Adedeji Adeleke a Nigerian businessman and politician, and late Veronica Adeleke. Adewale Adeleke and Sharon Adeleke are his siblings.

Davido is a father to Imade Adeleke, Hailey Veronica Adeleke, late David Adedeji Adeleke Jr., and his new born twins which their names are not yet disclosed on social media
