By Olusola Oladipo

Owu waterfall is the tallest and most spectacular waterfalls in the whole of Sub-Saharan Africa measuring 120 meter above sea level and falls 330 feet down the hill with rocky cliff into a pool of ice-cold water below.
Owu Waterfall has a stunning sight surrounded by lush vegetation and rocky terrain.
It is situated between Owa Onire and Owa Kajola in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria.
The area around the waterfall is excellent for hiking, picnicking, and enjoying nature. It is also a popular spot for photography due to its picturesque views. The waterfall is best visited during the rainy season when the water flow is at its peak.
Historical myths claim that the person who discovered Owu waterfalls came to Owa onire in the course of military escapades. His name was Bamigboye Aremu, and he discovered Owu waterfall in the 18th century.
Historical myths further claim that the founder met a big python, and that they held a conversation. The phyton was reported to have said that he would leave the place, but he would leave a sign which is the rainbow.
Owu waterfall has some unique attributes. One of such is that the more you shout, the more the water gushes out so heavily.
Another one is that there is a sign of a rainbow on the water; myths have it that the phyton did leave a sign there when he was leaving.
The waterfall is surrounded by a stretch of mountains extending to Ekiti and Kogi States.
The path, because of the lush greenery opens up like a curtain into a beautiful view of cascading showers dropping from 330 feet.
The water is ever cold and refreshing and almost acts like a massage as it comes down hard. Once you are in, you will not want to come out.
Indeed, whenever a visit is being planned; it is advisable to check local access conditions and consider hiring a guide for the best experience.
