Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stirred political reactions after making a series of pointed remarks about the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

In a video circulating online, the singer addressed supporters and political actors, accusing some social media users of allegedly accepting ₦100,000 engagements from the APC to promote the party on X.

“All of una wey don collect 100k gig from APC on Twitter, I know you all,” Davido said.

The singer went further to question the possibility of the APC conducting what he described as a free and fair election, alleging that the party was relying on violence because it feared losing the forthcoming poll.

“APC can’t have a free and fair election. They know they’ll lose and that’s why they use violence, but this time around, we won’t agree,” he said.

Davido also expressed confidence that his preferred political side would emerge victorious, telling supporters that the coming week would bring what he described as a positive outcome for the people.

“By next week, we’ll be victorious. We’ll give Nigerians hope,” he said.

The singer’s remarks also touched on the management of Osun State’s resources. He argued that money generated by the state should remain within Osun and be used for the benefit of its people rather than being taken to Lagos or Abuja.

“Osun State money will stay in Osun, and not Lagos or Abuja,” Davido declared.

The video has generated significant reactions online, particularly because Davido has become increasingly vocal about political issues involving Osun State.

His comments also reportedly included a direct verbal attack on Senator Francis Fadahunsi, whom he criticized in unusually blunt terms.

The development comes amid heightened political tension surrounding the Osun governorship election, with competing parties and political figures trading accusations and counter-accusations.

Davido’s intervention is unlikely to go unnoticed given his personal connection to Osun politics and his enormous following across Nigeria and beyond.

The singer’s comments, however, are political allegations and expressions of opinion rather than independently established facts. Claims concerning alleged payments to social media users and the use of violence would require evidence or confirmation from the relevant authorities before being treated as established facts.

As the election approaches, Davido’s latest remarks have added another layer of celebrity influence to an already heated political contest, with supporters applauding his intervention and critics questioning the role of entertainers in political campaigns.

With his promise that “we’ll be victorious” and his call for Osun’s resources to remain in the state, the singer has once again positioned himself firmly in the political conversation surrounding his home state.
