Dele Momodu accuses APC of destabilizing PDP and other opposition parties
DDM News

Prominent politician and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deliberately weakening opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Speaking in an interview with Diaspora digital media (DDM), Momodu alleged that the APC is using state power to create instability within rival parties as part of a broader plan to push Nigeria toward a one-party system.
Momodu pointed to the internal crisis within the PDP, which he largely attributed to unresolved grievances stemming from the 2022 presidential primaries.
According to him, many party members who lost out in the primaries remain disillusioned and have not fully reconciled with the party.
Some have attempted to move to other political platforms, while others remain within the PDP but without a sense of full commitment.
Beyond internal challenges, Momodu accused the APC of actively fueling divisions within the PDP and other opposition parties.
He claimed that the ruling party, fearing strong competition, is orchestrating crises to weaken its political rivals.
This, he argued, has made it increasingly difficult for the PDP to function effectively as a formidable opposition.
A key factor in the PDP’s struggles, according to Momodu, is the fallout from the 2022 primaries, particularly the defeat of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
Wike’s loss, along with his failure to secure the vice-presidential nomination, deepened tensions within the party.
While Wike continues to wield significant influence, Momodu suggested that he might be indirectly supporting the APC while maintaining a presence in the PDP, further complicating the party’s internal cohesion.
Although some political observers attribute the PDP’s difficulties to internal divisions, incompetence, and lack of direction, Momodu dismissed these claims.
He insisted that the APC’s manipulation of political dynamics has played a major role in undermining opposition parties.
He expressed concerns about the future of democracy in Nigeria, warning that if opposition parties, especially the PDP, continue to face suppression, the country could drift toward authoritarian rule.
Momodu also advised politicians currently aligning with the APC to remember the transient nature of power.
He argued that many of them are acting out of self-preservation rather than genuine loyalty to the ruling party.
On the PDP’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, Momodu expressed doubt about the party’s preparedness.
He criticized the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), suggesting that they are not ready for the challenge.
He even speculated that the PDP might decide against fielding a presidential candidate, given its current state of instability.
