Disappearance of boat captain in Akwa Ibom raises concerns

A baffling incident has unfolded in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, as a certain Emmanuel Olayinka, a boat captain, has gone missing under unclear circumstances.

According to an affidavit sworn by Felix Solomon Monday, an associate of Emmanuel, the missing captain arrived in Ibeno beach on August 7, 2024, complaining of illness. Felix took him to Romovic Clinic in Eket for treatment, where he was later discharged.

Emmanuel then checked into Promise Land Hotel, Allweather Road, Idua-Eket.

However, when Felix returned to the hotel to pick Emmanuel up for his return journey to Lagos, he was informed that Emmanuel had checked out at 5:55 am. Despite attempts to reach him via phone, Felix found Emmanuel’s mobile phone switched off.

“I tried to reach him through his mobile phone, it was switched off… I had no other option than to return to my house… After three days, I was surprised when I received a call from Lagos office that he was nowhere to be found,” Felix stated in the affidavit.

The affidavit, sworn at the High Court Registry in Eket, aims to exonerate Felix from the incident and prompt authorities to investigate the sudden disappearance.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police has launched discreet investigation into the incident.
