First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu

During a one-day workshop for women and youth on corruption prevention in Abuja, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu urged the nation’s youth to heed the caution and guidance of their parents and elders, as well as not allowing the government agencies alone to fight corruption.

This was disclosed in a press release by the SSA media to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Busola Kukoyi, yesterday.

The workshop was organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The First Lady emphasized that mothers must be at the front line of the fight against corruption, starting in the home.

“We must move beyond the desire to have our voices heard and step into roles where our actions are impactful.

“Let us take a moment to reflect on the words of our elders: ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.

“In the same vein, it takes the collective will of the entire nation to defeat corruption”, she added.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu maintained that corruption is a social issue that impedes progress.

She urged women to take their job as nurturers more seriously.

“This menace is seen in every sector, from the trader in the market, to the private sector, government agencies, the judiciary and even in places of worship to mention a few and age is no barrier.

“It is for all of us and for the future of our beloved country, that we must remain resolute in our efforts to combat this scourge.

“We cannot leave this battle to government agencies alone.

“It is time for us to take our place as mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, leaders and reformers to do the needful.

“Women are nurturers but recently, we have left our children to raise themselves with the excuse of providing a better life for them”, said the First Lady.

Commission is committed to winning the battle against corruption – ICPC chairman

The chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, stressed in his speech that the commission is committed to winning the battle against corruption.

He stated it is the rationale for the strategy of incorporating moms, young people, and other important stakeholders.

Among others, the Code of Conduct Bureau, JAMB, security agencies, and youth representatives sent goodwill notes.

In his message, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar of JAMB, stated that mothers play a vital role in preventing corruption from being ingrained or sustained in the next generation.

According to Kogi state’s commissioner for youth, students need to transition from protesting to taking part.

The Workshop had ‘Women and Youth Alliance against Corruption’ as its theme.

Youth from various sectors, security agencies, and women’s organizations were among those present at the workshop.
