Don’t Test Trump’s Resolve — US Lawmaker Warns Tinubu Over Christian Killings

A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has warned President Bola Tinubu against testing the patience of US President Donald Trump following Trump’s recent threat to take military action in Nigeria.

Moore, who represents West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, issued the warning in an open letter addressed to Tinubu and the Nigerian government on X.

His statement came days after Trump threatened to deploy the US Department of War to Nigeria to stop what he described as the “mass slaughter of Christians” in the country’s northern region.

Moore said Trump’s warning should be taken seriously, stressing that the US government under Trump’s leadership would not ignore attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

“President Trump has provided forewarning if you do not correct the current state of inaction to stop the killing of our brothers and sisters in Christ in your country,” Moore wrote.

He added, “The days of the US looking the other way are over it will never happen on @POTUS’ watch.”

The congressman urged Tinubu to take immediate action against terrorist groups targeting civilians, especially Christians, in the North.

“I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity that worsens every day. We want your people to live in peace — all of them, especially Christians,” he wrote.

Moore warned that Trump’s message was not an empty threat, saying,

“The President has been clear. I would not test his resolve. Many have tried and all have failed. We will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against the faithful.”

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Trump’s agenda to protect religious freedom and end violence against Christians worldwide.

Earlier, Moore had praised Trump for designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern under the International Religious Freedom Act.

He said the decision showed Trump’s “unwavering defense of Christians” and his readiness to confront nations accused of tolerating religious persecution.

According to Moore, the collaboration between himself, President Trump, and House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole is aimed at defending Christians “slaughtered by radical Islamists in Nigeria.”

He wrote, “We are standing firm with the President to ensure the safety of all Christians being persecuted. The days of silence are over.”
