The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, has ushered in a new phase of clinical leadership following the assumption of office by Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Olusola Adebisi, as the institution’s new Head of Clinical Services (HCS).
Dr. Adebisi officially resumed duties on Monday, June 15, 2026, following the completion of the tenure of his predecessor, Dr. A.S. Adediran, whose leadership was acknowledged for contributing to notable improvements in clinical service delivery at the hospital.
His appointment was confirmed by the institution’s 7th Board of Management during its 6th Extraordinary Meeting held on June 8, 2026, a decision widely regarded as part of efforts to strengthen clinical administration and improve healthcare outcomes within the centre.
Before his elevation, Dr. Adebisi headed the Nephrology Unit at FMC Abeokuta, where he established himself as a leading expert in renal medicine and kidney disease management. He is also known for his strong advocacy in preventive nephrology, particularly through awareness programmes such as the annual World Kidney Day activities aimed at promoting early diagnosis and improved kidney health.
Over the years, he has contributed significantly to medical training and mentorship within the hospital, guiding resident doctors, medical officers, and nursing professionals in specialized care, thereby supporting the institution’s clinical development goals.
Dr. Adebisi’s professional experience extends into medical administration and organized healthcare leadership. He has previously served as Chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), FMC Abeokuta branch, and currently holds the position of Faculty Treasurer of the West African College of Physicians (WACP). His involvement in the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) further reflects his long-standing engagement in Nigeria’s health governance structure.
Beyond his professional duties, he is also active in community service, serving as President of a Rotary Club in the Oke-Ona Egba area, where he supports health and humanitarian initiatives. He also participates in social development activities through his role in the Abeokuta Sports Club.
Known for his disciplined and people-oriented leadership style, Dr. Adebisi is expected to focus on improving patient care, strengthening clinical training programmes, enhancing research capacity, and promoting greater coordination among hospital departments.
In his remarks following his assumption of office, he emphasized the importance of teamwork, innovation, and ethical medical practice in delivering quality healthcare services.
His appointment has been met with optimism from stakeholders, who believe his blend of clinical expertise and administrative experience will further position FMC Abeokuta as a leading institution in healthcare delivery, training, and medical research.
