The Edo State Government has announced a ₦100 million grant for spare parts traders at Uwelu Spare Parts Market, alongside plans to rehabilitate roads within the market to improve business activities and movement.
The intervention is aimed at supporting traders and addressing some of the infrastructure challenges affecting one of Benin City’s major commercial hubs.
The government said the financial support would help strengthen the businesses of traders, while the planned road rehabilitation is expected to improve access to the market and ease the movement of goods and customers.
Uwelu Spare Parts Market is a major centre for automobile spare parts and related businesses in Edo State, attracting traders, mechanics, distributors and customers from different parts of the state and beyond.
The government’s announcement comes as part of efforts to support small and medium-sized businesses while improving the infrastructure around major commercial centres.
The ₦100 million grant and proposed road rehabilitation therefore represent a combined financial and infrastructure intervention targeted at the traders and the wider market economy.
