The defending champions responded in emphatic fashion after their opening setback in the competition, delivering a statement victory built on discipline, attacking precision, and superior game management. FC Robo Queens, despite showing flashes of attacking intent, were unable to withstand the sustained pressure from Edo Queens, who controlled large phases of the match and punished defensive errors with clinical efficiency.
From the first whistle, Edo Queens demonstrated clear intent, pressing high and forcing FC Robo into early mistakes. Their midfield dominance allowed them to dictate possession, while their attacking trio constantly stretched the opposition defence with quick transitions and intelligent movement.
The breakthrough came early in the contest when Edo Queens capitalised on defensive hesitation inside the box. A well worked attacking move saw the ball fall kindly to Oluwatobiloba Folasade, who calmly slotted home from close range to give the champions a deserved lead. The goal settled nerves and set the tone for what would become a dominant display.
FC Robo Queens attempted to respond through their lively forward line, with Opeyemi Ajakaye and Jennifer Anthony trying to break through Edo’s compact defensive structure. Their best spell of the first half produced a well taken equaliser when Ajakaye finished off a swift counterattack, beating the Edo Queens goalkeeper with a low strike to level the score and briefly shift momentum.
However, the parity did not last long.
Edo Queens quickly reasserted control through their experienced midfield engine, with Esther Onyenezide pulling the strings in the middle of the park. Her vision and passing range created several openings, and it was from one of her incisive through balls that Edo Queens restored their lead.
Striker Ufuoma Ibeh timed her run perfectly before finishing confidently past the FC Robo goalkeeper to make it 2–1, restoring Edo’s advantage before halftime.
The second half began with Edo Queens raising the intensity further, refusing to allow FC Robo any rhythm. Their pressing game forced repeated turnovers, and their attacking coordination became increasingly difficult to contain.
The third goal arrived shortly after the restart, this time from a set piece situation. Defender Mary Ologbosere rose highest inside the box to power a header into the net from a corner kick, extending Edo Queens’ lead to 3–1 and effectively putting the game beyond FC Robo’s reach.
At that point, FC Robo Queens struggled to regain structure, as Edo continued to dominate possession and exploit gaps in transition. Their defensive line was repeatedly stretched, and their midfield found it difficult to track Edo’s overlapping runs.
The fourth and final goal came as a result of sustained pressure, with substitute Joy Oghuma finishing off a well constructed team move. After a series of quick passes around the edge of the box, Oghuma found space and curled a composed finish beyond the goalkeeper to seal a comprehensive 4–1 victory.
The final whistle confirmed a dominant performance from Edo Queens, who combined technical superiority with physical intensity to overwhelm their opponents in all areas of the pitch.
For FC Robo Queens, the defeat highlighted defensive vulnerabilities and lapses in concentration at crucial moments. Despite their attacking quality and willingness to fight back, they were unable to maintain consistency against a highly organized Edo Queens side.
Their coaching staff will now be forced to reassess tactical structure ahead of their remaining Super Six fixtures, where every point will be critical in determining their final standing in the competition.
Edo Queens, meanwhile, will take significant confidence from this performance. The victory not only boosts their points tally but also reinforces their reputation as a team capable of rising to big occasions. Their balance between experienced players and emerging talents continues to be a key strength, allowing them to adapt to different match situations effectively.
Head coach Whyte Ogbonda will be particularly pleased with the team’s response after their earlier defeat, as the players demonstrated resilience, discipline, and attacking sharpness throughout the contest.
The result also sends a strong message to other contenders in the NWFL Super Six, signalling that Edo Queens remain firmly in the hunt for another league title despite the competitive nature of the tournament.
As the Super Six progresses, attention will now turn to Edo Queens’ next fixture, where they will aim to maintain momentum and continue their push for domestic dominance. FC Robo Queens, on the other hand, must regroup quickly if they are to remain in contention for silverware.
