Electoral Fraud: Police Arrests Anambra House of Reps Candidate
The Nigeria Police has arrested Hon Sopuluchukwu Ezeonwuka, a former member of the House of Representatives for electoral offenses.
According to our correspondent, Mr. Eneh Victor Chigozie, Hon Ezeonwuka contested for the House of Representatives election for Orumba north and south in Anambra State.
He vied under the platform of Accord Party and came a distant 5th.
He was arrested by police when he connived with a top Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] official to doctor the result of the February 23 election in which Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA] was declared winner.
According to our source, Hon Ezeonwuka in conspiracy with the INEC official altered the result of 52 polling units in Orumba north and south.
He then filed for the Certified True Copy of the result from INEC to enable him go to the tribunal.
The plot however, backfired when Ezenwankwo who won the election applied for the CTC of the result from INEC.
The copy of the result given to him was different from the original result that was declared and copies given to party agents.
He quickly notified INEC of the alteration. At this point, INEC invited police and on investigation the INEC official and Hon Sopuluchukwu Ezeonwuka were arrested.
They were arraigned this morning at the Magistrate Court in Ajali also in Anambra State but the court declined jurisdiction and asked them to take the matter to the High Court.
