Enzo, Zinedine Zidane’s son, retires from football at 29
Enzo Zidane, the eldest son of French football icon Zinedine Zidane, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29.
The midfielder last played for Fuenlabrada in the third tier of Spanish football.
Enzo’s decision to hang up his boots comes after a journeyman career, marked by stints with several clubs, including Real Madrid, Alavés, Lausanne-Sport, Rayo Majadahonda, Aves, Almería, Rodez, and Fuenlabrada.
Despite being part of the Real Madrid youth system and scoring on his only first-team appearance in the Copa del Rey in 2016, Enzo struggled to find consistency and make a name for himself in the football world.
According to famous and reliable sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano, Enzo has opted to focus on his investments, signaling a new chapter in his life.
The retirement announcement comes on the heels of another young footballer, Romeo Beckham, son of David Beckham, announcing his retirement from football at 22 to pursue a career in fashion.
“Enzo has decided to retire from football to focus on his personal projects and investments,” a family source revealed. “He’s grateful for the opportunities he had, but feels it’s time to move on.”
Enzo’s football career was always under scrutiny, given his legendary father’s shadow. Zinedine Zidane, a World Cup winner and two-time FIFA World Player of the Year, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
“Enzo has shown great dedication and passion for football, but sometimes it’s tough to replicate the success of a legendary father,” said former Real Madrid teammate, Lucas Vázquez. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Enzo’s retirement sparks debate about the challenges faced by children of famous footballers.
“It’s not easy to live up to expectations when your father is a legend,” said football analyst, Guillem Balagué. “Enzo’s story highlights the difficulties of forging your own path in the football world.”
