Equavoen quits as Super Eagles Interim Head Coach
Augustine Eguavoen has quit his role as the interim coach of the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen said his mandate was only for two games, which he has now completed.
Speaking with newsmen after the Super Eagles barren draw in Kigali against Rwanda in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier, Eguavoen thanked the players and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for supporting his brief stint.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical director was appointed as interim gaffer after the federation’s attempts to hire a permanent head coach for the national team were unsuccessful.
During his brief tenure, Eguavoen led the Super Eagles in two crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
The Nigerian senior men’s team had defeated Benin Republic 3-0 on Sunday.

Beginning as a player-coach for Sliema Wanderers in 1999, Eguavoen transitioned to full-time management, taking the reins at Bendel Insurance in 2002.
His early success led to opportunities with the Nigerian U20 team and eventually the senior national team, which he managed from 2005 to 2007.
This experience laid the foundation for a prolific managerial career, with stints at various clubs in Nigeria, South Africa, and Greece.
Eguavoen’s association with the Nigerian Football Federation is particularly notable, having held multiple roles, including caretaker manager, U23 manager, and Technical Director.
