The family and friends of the renowned Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, have launched a GoFundMe page to appeal for financial assistance to cover the funeral costs of the late actor.

The funeral is scheduled to take place on June 28, 2024.

Mr Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos, following a cardiac arrest.

He had been hospitalized for several months prior to his demise, during which one of his legs was amputated due to his ailment.

The central planning committee, comprising the actor’s family and friends, has made a public appeal for donations to ensure a dignified and successful burial for Mr Ibu.

The committee, led by Chairman Monday Diamond, Secretary Christy Ejiofor, and Actors Guild of Nigeria President Emeka Rollas, explained that the late actor’s medical expenses had depleted his resources, leaving his family and friends to seek financial assistance to give him a befitting farewell.

The committee’s statement read, “The Central Planning Committee of Late John Okafor (family and friends) solicit financial support from the general public to help them execute a successful burial for the late Nollywood legend.”

The appeal comes as the family and friends of Mr Ibu prepare for a five-day funeral celebration to honor his memory.

The funeral expenses are expected to be substantial, and the committee is counting on the support of fans, colleagues, and the general public to help them give Mr Ibu a fitting sendoff.
