ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government is engaging banks on its new digital revenue platform, RevOp, to boost transparency, curb leakages, and modernise revenue collection across the country, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Friday.

The initiative, which is part of the government’s broader fiscal reform agenda, aims to streamline revenue collection processes by integrating financial institutions into a centralised digital system. The RevOp platform is designed to enhance real-time monitoring of revenue inflows and ensure that all government receipts are properly accounted for.

According to the ministry, the engagement with banks is critical to the successful implementation of the platform, as financial institutions play a key role in processing payments and remitting revenues to government coffers. The government is working with banks to ensure seamless integration, data sharing, and compliance with the new system.

The RevOp platform is expected to address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s revenue collection system, including leakages, inefficiencies, and lack of transparency. By digitising the process, the government aims to reduce human intervention and minimise opportunities for fraud and mismanagement.

The Federal Government has also emphasised that the platform will improve the ease of doing business by providing a more efficient and transparent payment system for taxpayers and businesses. The ministry noted that the engagement with banks would help address concerns raised by stakeholders about the implementation of the new system.

The development comes as the government continues to implement reforms aimed at increasing non-oil revenue and reducing the country’s dependence on oil earnings. The RevOp platform is seen as a key tool in achieving these objectives by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of revenue collection.

The Ministry of Finance has assured that the engagement with banks will be conducted transparently and in consultation with relevant stakeholders. The government has also pledged to provide adequate support and training to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

As the government rolls out the RevOp platform, the success of the initiative will depend on the cooperation of financial institutions and other stakeholders. For now, the Federal Government has made its position clear: digital revenue collection is the way forward, and banks must play their part in ensuring its success.
