First Lady supports Kaduna women with N50 million grant, distributes professional kits to midwives

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has given N50 million to support petty traders in Kaduna.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, was born on September 21, 1960, in Ogun State.

She is married to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and previously served as the First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

She holds a National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Botany and Zoology from Adeyemi College of Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).

Oluremi Tinubu was elected as a Senator representing Lagos Central in 2011 and served for three consecutive terms until 2023.

As a lawmaker, she focused on women’s empowerment, youth development, and social welfare.

She established the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which provides support in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment for women and vulnerable groups.

She has also championed policies addressing gender equality and social development.

Throughout her career, she has received several awards for her contributions to governance, education, and humanitarian services.

She remains a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and advocacy for women’s rights.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the grant was handed over to the First Lady of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani, for distribution.

The funds will benefit 1,000 women engaged in small-scale businesses across various communities in Kaduna.

Each beneficiary will receive N50,000 to strengthen and expand their existing businesses.

The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), focused on economic empowerment, healthcare, and social development.

A symbolic cheque representing the grant was presented at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Kaduna.

The event was attended by government officials, dignitaries, and selected women beneficiaries.

Professional kits for midwives in North-West states

Senator Oluremi Tinubu also launched the distribution of 10,000 professional kits for midwives in the North-West region.

The initiative covers Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara states.

Each midwife will receive scrubs and a pair of Crocs to support their work in healthcare facilities.

The First Lady revealed that an anonymous global donor provided the professional kits.

She handed the items to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for distribution.

The initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s training program for 120,000 frontline health workers.

Senator Tinubu emphasized that all six geopolitical zones in Nigeria would benefit from the initiative.

The North-Central Zone had already received its allocation on January 29, 2025.

Kaduna is now receiving its share as part of the North-West zone’s allocation.

The South-South zone will be the next to benefit from the distribution.

Senator Tinubu stressed the importance of equipping midwives with the right tools for effective healthcare delivery.

She commended midwives for their dedication and contribution to maternal and child health.

Governor Uba Sani praises the initiative

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State appreciated the First Lady’s efforts in supporting Nigerian women and healthcare workers.

He described the distribution of the professional kits as a major step in improving maternal and child health.

The governor acknowledged that maternal mortality remains a significant challenge in Nigeria.

He emphasized that many women still lose their lives during childbirth due to inadequate healthcare access.

Governor Uba Sani disclosed that Kaduna recently recruited 100 ad-hoc midwives to strengthen healthcare services.

The state government has been investing in upgrading healthcare facilities across different local government areas.

A total of 290 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) have been upgraded with modern medical equipment.

The initiative has contributed to a reduction in maternal and child mortality in Kaduna.

The state plans to upgrade an additional 255 PHCs this year.

Construction work is ongoing to upgrade 143 PHCs across Kaduna State.

Governor Uba Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

Economic empowerment for women in Kaduna

Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani assured that the N50 million grant would be distributed transparently.

She emphasized that the initiative aligns with Kaduna State’s efforts to empower women economically.

The grant will enable beneficiaries to increase their business capital and profits.

She encouraged the women to invest the funds wisely in expanding their businesses.

She praised Senator Tinubu for her continued support for women through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
