Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is recovering after undergoing treatment, according to CNN.
Bondi said she learned of the diagnosis after leaving the Justice Department in April. She recently underwent surgery and said she is now recovering at home.
“I’m doing well,” Bondi told CNN, adding that she is still healing from the procedure.
Bondi was removed from her post by Donald Trump earlier this year, with Todd Blanche stepping in as acting attorney general.
Despite her health challenges, Bondi is still expected to testify on Friday before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
US outlet CNN reported that Bondi is also set to take on a new position within the administration as a member of the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Vice President JD Vance praised Bondi in a statement, calling her “an enormously valuable asset” to the administration and expressing support for her continued involvement in government affairs.
Bondi’s departure from the Justice Department followed months of reported tension with Trump, who was said to be unhappy with how aggressively the department pursued investigations involving his political opponents.
She also faced criticism over her handling of files linked to Epstein, an issue that continued to generate political pressure inside the administration.
CNN said the story is still developing
