FULL LIST: Phones that WhatsApp will no longer work on in May 2025

Meta expands teens' restrictions

Meta has announced that WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business will stop working on several older smartphones starting May 5, 2025.

The move is part of efforts to improve security and ensure better performance across modern devices.

The company said the decision would help maintain platform efficiency and protect user data.

Devices unable to meet the latest system requirements will lose access to WhatsApp after the deadline.

Apple Devices Affected

Users with iPhones that cannot upgrade to iOS 15.1 will be cut off. Affected iPhones include:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iphone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus

These models only support iOS 12.5.7, which is below WhatsApp’s new requirement.

Android Devices Affected

Support for Android devices running version 4.4 (KitKat) or earlier ended on January 1, 2025.

Phones that cannot be updated to newer operating systems will no longer support WhatsApp.

Samsung Devices:

  • Galaxy S3
  •  Galaxy Note 2
  •  Galaxy Ace 3
  • Galaxy S4 Mini

Motorola Devices:

  • Moto G (1st Generation)
  • Moto E (2014)
  •  Razr HD

HTC Devices:

  •  One X
  •  One X+
  • Desire 500
  • Desire 601

LG Devices:

  • Optimus G
  • G2 Mini
  • L90
  •  Nexus 4

Sony Devices:

  •  Xperia Z
  •  Xperia SP
  • Xperia T
  • Xperia V

Meta advised users of these models to upgrade to newer smartphones before May 5.

Failure to do so will result in loss of access to WhatsApp and its features.

The company reiterated its focus on improving safety, speed, and user experience across supported devices.
