As the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, heats up, Delta State has once again asserted its dominance, now sitting firmly atop the medals table with an impressive haul—7 gold medals ahead of Bayelsa as of May 23, 2025.

With a commanding performance across swimming and taekwondo, Delta’s victory streak seems unbreakable, leaving rivals like Bayelsa to ponder their chances of toppling the reigning champs.

In the pool, Delta swimmers showcased their prowess. Duke Eniyekenumi powered to gold in the men’s 200m backstroke, while Akiayefa Timipame-ere demonstrated remarkable versatility, claiming gold in the women’s 200m individual medley.

These stellar performances highlight Delta’s deep pool of talent and set a confident tone for the medal hunt.

The winning streak continued on land, as Delta’s taekwondo team reaffirmed their martial arts supremacy.

Over five days at Ilisan Town Hall, Delta collected five gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, dominating the demonstration (Poomsae) categories—sweeping gold in male team, female team, and pair events.

Stars like Olusola Olowookere and Kolade Paul further added to Delta’s impressive tally with gold medals in their respective weight divisions.
