#Gateway Games: Delta sports boss hails team’s resilience

Ogun State – The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Honorable Onoriode Oborevwori, has praised the unwavering resilience and fighting spirit of Team Delta athletes and officials at the 22nd National Sports Festival, popularly known as the Gateway Games. The event is currently underway in Ogun State.
Speaking on Friday morning, Oborevwori lauded the team’s relentless pursuit of excellence despite facing intense competition and logistical challenges. He commended their discipline, unity, and determination, describing them as true champions embodying the spirit of Delta’s sporting prowess.
“Against all odds, our athletes and officials have shown remarkable strength and character. The hurdles may be many, but Team Delta continues to stand tall and resilient. Their commitment and team spirit exemplify what it means to fight through adversity,” the sports boss stated.
He also highlighted the strong collaboration between athletes, coaches, and support staff, attributing the team’s consistent top performance to their coordinated efforts.
Hon. Oborevwori assured that the Delta State Government remains committed to supporting the team to ensure a successful campaign and to uphold Delta’s reputation as a leading sporting powerhouse in Nigeria.
He called on all Delta indigenes to rally behind the team as they compete fiercely for medals in the remaining days of the Games. As of 7:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2024, Team Delta is placed second on the medals table with 31 gold, 11 silver, and 28 bronze medals. Bayelsa leads with 32 gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze medals, while Rivers is third with 15 gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
