Godwin Obaseki has been sworn in as the new governor of Edo state, for the next four years, at the expiration of the term of office of Adams Oshiomhole.

Mr Godwin Obaseki has been sworn-in as the new governor of Edo state.

Residents, supporters of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) from the state, as well as those from other parts of the country, converged on the facility to witness the inauguration ceremony.

Mr Obaseki was sworn in along with his Deputy, Philip Shuabu.

Obaseki swearing in follows the expiration of the term of office of Adams Oshiomhole.

It was a colourful event on November 12, 2016, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin city, the Edo state capital.

In the state box, other dignitaries like the outgoing governor, Adams Oshiomhole and his wife, the National Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, some former and serving governors, were also present at the event.

Following the laid down procedures at events of such nature, the Chief Judge of Edo state, administered the oath first on the deputy Mr Shuaibu, after which Obaseki was sworn in.

After the swearing-in exercise, he went ahead to perform his first function as governor by inspecting the inauguration parade in a motorcade after which he presented his inaugural address.

The new governor promised to do his best in taking the state to the next level.

The old order of Governor Adams Oshiomhole is now over after eight years of stewardship.

Much, however, is expected of the new governor, as he begins his reign as the chief occupant of the Dennis Osadebe Avenue for the next four years.

INEC had declared Mr Obaseki, winner of the Edo State governorship election on September 28, 2016.
