Golf: 128 male, 15 female tee-off in Ilorin’s amateur open
About 143 golfers in Ilorin, north central Nigerian city capital of Kwara teed-off at the annual The Emirate Global Hotel Amateur Open Tournament 2024.
Sponsored by the Chairman of Emirate Global Hotels and Suite, Hon. Justice Lambo Akanbi (rtd), the tournament attracted golfers from across the country.
The golfers arrived on Friday May 10, 2024, for a pre-tournament cocktail event and to familiarize themselves with the course before the competition in various categories.
The tournament kicked off in earnest at 6 am after an early morning shower which the golfer say makes the weather pleasant for the game.
The tournament is taking place at the 18 hole Ilorin Gulf Club.
One of the participants, AbdulRaheem Maliq, executive secretary Kwara State Hospital Management Board, said the game is good as cardiovascular exercise which enhances physical fitness.
The Physician stressed that playing a complete game of golf aids golfers to walk about eight kilometers, noting also that this year’s edition of Ilorin open amateur golf championship was excellently staged and the ambiance was encouraging to participate in the future championship.
“We have a seasoned golfer in Jide Allen as a captain, he knows where the pains of golfers are and where the experiment of golfers are and he has been providing what we need, as you can see, the course is lush green”
The medical expert encouraged people irrespective of their status to engage in the game of golf as it’s a good form exercise apart from promoting business and friendship.
The tournament feature categories such as category 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as Veterans and Super Veterans, with prizes for each category. The closing ceremony and prize presentation will take place on the same evening.
The Emirate Global Hotel Amateur Open Tournament is an annual event organized by Emirate Global Hotels and Suite, with support from various partners, to promote golfing initiatives.
