Government partners with private sector to create jobs

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has signed an MOU with the Ministry of Youth Development and Sapphital Limited.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that this partnership aims to enhance skills development, job placement, and entrepreneurship opportunities for Nigerians across various sectors.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, announced this during the MOU signing in Abuja.

She emphasized that the agreement aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s workforce and create more job opportunities.

According to Onyejeocha, the collaboration between the two ministries marks a crucial step in achieving employment growth.

She highlighted the Labour Employment Enhancement Programme (LEEP) as a key platform for skills development, job placement, and entrepreneurship.

“This collaboration ensures that workers across different sectors can access meaningful employment and contribute to national growth,” she said.

“Our focus remains on advancing employment opportunities, improving working conditions, and building a strong, resilient workforce,” Onyejeocha added.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities for all Nigerians.

Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, also stressed the importance of this initiative for Nigerian youth.

He stated that the MOU reflects President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for youth employment and economic transformation.

“The signing of this MOU demonstrates the seriousness of this administration in empowering Nigerians,” Olawande said.

He emphasized that the goal is to significantly reduce the unemployment rate across the country.

Olawande revealed that the Ministry of Labour and Employment, through LEEP, will soon launch an entrepreneurship programme.

He stated that the programme, led by President Tinubu, aims to set a new standard in youth employment.

This initiative will provide structured pathways for skills development, job placement, and entrepreneurial growth.

Olawande stressed that the partnership focuses on concrete actions, not just promises.

The programme will integrate vocational training and mentorship to equip young Nigerians with essential skills.

“We assure Nigerian youths that we are providing skills and upgrading their capabilities to compete in today’s economy,” he said.

“This initiative will prepare young people for job opportunities, encourage creativity in job creation, and drive economic growth,” he added.

He called for sustained collaboration among ministries, agencies, and parastatals to reduce unemployment.

The signing of this MOU reaffirms the government’s commitment to job creation and economic empowerment for all Nigerians.
