Graduating Boy Awarded N500,000 As 171 Pass Out Of NMS Zaria

Three out of the 171 boys that graduated from the Nigeria Military School (NMS), Zaria on Saturday, shared N1m donated by the Niger and Kano State governments for distinguishing themselves in academics and other fields at the award ceremony of the colourful 59th Passing Out Parade (POP) of the school.

One of them, Titus Tobechukwu won two awards, Best Boy in Leadership and Best Boy Military Training and received N500,000 for both.

Dalhatu Zulkarnian Abdulkadir won the Best Boy in Regimentation Award, while Paul Abu Akor won Overall Best Boy Award and each got N250,000.

Speaking to newsmen after the POP, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade who represented the Reviewing Officer, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai said that he was delighted that the NMS  boys have improved.

“The NMS Boys have upped their game. I was here last and what I see now is a tremendous improvement from what was witnessed,” he added.

Also commenting when fielding questions, Commandant of NMS, Brigadier General M.M. Bunza said that the curriculum covered by students of the school covers all aspects of military training, including military laws of  and counter insurgency.

“The boys have been well trained. For the six years that they have been here they have been better trained and equipped,” he added.

On his part, Titus Tobechukwu who won two awards was grateful to the management of the school for all he learnt while there.

He vowed to move on to NDA after serving where he is posted to by the Army.

“By God’s grace we would be posted to various units and by God’s grace I will proceed to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) from where I hope to move on to become a General in the Nigerian Army,” he said.

Also speaking, winner of the Best Boy in Regimentation, Dalhatu Zulkarnian Abdulkadir said that he thanked God for helping him to pass out successfully.

“After passing out we are now soldiers,” an excited Abdulkadir said.

As part of other activities to mark the POP, the Chief of Army Staff’s representative commissioned some projects within the school’s premises.

He also went on an inspection of art and scientific projects that were done by students of the school.

The POP attracted spectators, well wishers and parents from all over the country, who were thrilled by parade march past in quick and slow time, silent drills, calisthenics display and combat match.
