Gun Men Attack Vigilance Office, Kill Operative In Ebonyi Local Council

Gun men, according to reports on Wednesday, attacked the office of a local vigilance group known as Ngboejeogu Central Security, at Ngbo Court, Ohaukwu Local Government, Ebonyi State.

The attack led to the killing of one of its personnel injuring another.

Not done, the assailants looted properties of the vigilance operatives including motorcycles, the report said.

The incident is another of a series of targeted assault on vigilantes in the state.

Confirming the incident, the Council Chairman, Prince Odono Ikechukwu Onwe in a statement signed by him on Wednesday said he was saddened by the development.

He lamented that the frequent attack on  the security men in the area has been  demoralizing, slowing the frantic efforts of the members of vigilance group in safeguarding the localities.

“Severally, our security men have been battered, humiliated, abused, and murdered gruesomely which demoralizes the efforts of our vigilantes in safeguarding our Localities.

“We are saddened on the cruel and bloody  invasion of faceless gunmen on the Office of Ngboejeogu Central Security at Ngbo Court,” the chairman said.

Going further he expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.

“Sorrowfully, we mourn and console the families of the departed security personnel that lost her life in active duty,the one that is injured,operatives of Ngboejeogu Central Security,Ngboejeogu Clan,and entire Ohaukwu.

“Effort is on top gear by security operative to ensure the culprit of these heinous crime is apprehended, and brought to justice.

“Resolve to achieve peace in Ohaukwu Local Government can never be undermined by anybody, we urge our people to be vigilante in their environment and report any illegal movement to the nearest police station,” he said.
