Gunmen Hijack Two Buses On Kogi Road Going To Abuja, Kidnap Scores Of Passengers

On Saturday, a group of gunmen abducted passengers from God Is Good Motors and ABC transport buses that were traveling from Kogi State to Abuja.

At the time of filing this story, SaharaReporters was unable to determine the exact number of travelers abducted.

Influencer Chude Nnamdi said on social media on Sunday that he had heard about the event.

He tweeted, “#Breakingnews: The information that reached me this morning is that yesterday in Kogi state, kidnappers abducted a GIG & ABC transport bus that was headed to Abuja.

He included a post from a person claiming that his wife was among those taken hostage in the GIG bus and that the abductors had asked for N15 million in ransom.

“Kindly assist raise awareness about the GIG bus hijack by gunmen at Kogi yesterday. Unfortunately, my wife was in that bus,” the post stated. At 7:30 a.m., the GIG bus departed Umuahia and was taken over in Kogi State.

The GIG firm claimed to be tracing them and to have gotten in touch with security services. Using my wife’s phone, the kidnappers called this morning and demanded N15 million.

It said, “Kindly assist create awareness on social media.”

“Passengers in two loaded buses were kidnapped and everywhere is just quiet like its nothing: is this the new normal?” Nnamdi said in another post on Monday. Two buses in total!

“Apparently, this happened at around 3pm, along Olamaboro LGA, after one of the sharp road bends, some distance away from the police checkpoint,” the eyewitness wrote in a message he attached.

“The two buses were five minutes ahead of us. The only person to escape was the GIGM driver, who had numerous wounds that were still bleeding.

“Yesterday was really terrifying.” That location is not too distant from Olamaboro’s and Enugu State’s border.

The Kogi State Police Command spokesperson promised to confirm the event when DDM News contacted him on Sunday.

“Yes, the incident happened but the DPO, local vigilantes, and hunters have been in the bush in an effort to rescue the victims,” he said on Monday, confirming the incident.

“To ensure that all victims are rescued unharmed, CP has deployed an additional tactical squad to the area. This squad consists of members of the Police Mobile Force, Couter-Terrorism Unit, and Quick Response Unit.”
