Gunmen have carried out another deadly attack in Plateau State, killing five people and injuring three others in Nding Susut, a community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The shooting happened late Tuesday evening, around 8 p.m., when residents were gathered outside their homes.
Witnesses say the attackers arrived suddenly and opened fire, throwing the area into chaos.
A local resident, Weng Christopher, said the victims were members of the same family, seated in their compound when the gunmen struck.
One person tried to flee but was chased down and killed.
People in the community say the violence is becoming a grim routine.
According to Christopher, fear has taken over daily life, with many residents unable to sleep at night because of repeated attacks.
The incident has also drawn condemnation from local groups. Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders, described the killings as deeply troubling.
He pointed out that the community is located very close to a military checkpoint, yet attackers continue to operate and escape without being caught.
Tengwong added that the same group of gunmen attempted to move into a neighbouring community in Riyom Local Government Area that same night but were pushed back by vigilantes and security operatives.
Police have confirmed the attack, saying the victims included four women and a nine-year-old boy.
Three other women were injured and are currently receiving treatment at a general hospital.
According to police spokesperson Alfred Alabo, officers were quickly deployed to the scene after the incident was reported.
The area has since been secured, and authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible.
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, condemned the killings and said additional security teams have been sent to the area to prevent further violence.
He also called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by sharing useful information.
This latest attack comes just days after a similar incident in the same region left five people dead, adding to growing concerns about the worsening security situation in parts of Plateau State.
