COPDEM People's Parliament

The Coalition of Progressive Democrats (COPDEM) has announced the latest edition of its People’s Parliament, scheduled for Monday, 5th May 2025.

This crucial event will hold at exactly 7:00 PM Nigerian time and will be broadcast live via Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) Television.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), a UK-based Nigerian media company headquartered in Awka, Anambra State, is known for highlighting hard-hitting issues affecting Nigerians both home and abroad.

COPDEM, through its People’s Parliament, has consistently offered a platform where Nigerians dissect burning socio-political topics.

This edition comes at a time when national discourse is heating up, particularly concerning the 2027 general elections, insecurity in Northern Nigeria, youth political participation, and controversial arrests of online activists.

One of the trending headlines for the event is a bold statement by former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi reportedly said, “The Tinubu government won’t hand over power; you must be ready to take it in 2027.”

His comment has sparked nationwide debate on the readiness of Nigerian youths and opposition parties to challenge the incumbent administration.

Political analysts believe this is a call for mobilization and vigilance ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Another key issue is the escalating terrorism in Zamfara State.

The state, plagued by violent banditry and terrorist attacks, is feared to be nearing another declaration of a state of emergency.

Residents have reported continuous attacks in local government areas like Anka, Maru, and Bukkuyum, prompting fresh calls for federal intervention.

Security experts argue that the military’s current strategy has failed to dismantle insurgent strongholds in the Northwest.

The COPDEM Parliament will examine whether President Tinubu’s government has the political will to tackle this crisis head-on.

Also topping the list of topics is the recent arrest of social media activist, VDM (VeryDarkMan).

Critics describe the arrest as a deliberate distraction from the more serious allegations that Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah was kidnapped by Seyi Tinubu, son of the President.

VDM is known for using his platform to expose corruption and social injustice, which has earned him both followers and enemies.

Human rights groups say his arrest undermines freedom of expression and transparency in governance.

Participants at the COPDEM People’s Parliament will question whether dissenting voices are being systematically silenced under the guise of law enforcement.

A final issue for debate is the growing visibility of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a credible alternative for Nigerian youths in 2027.

Many young Nigerians have become disillusioned with the APC and PDP, accusing both of perpetuating the same cycle of corruption and poor governance.

The ADC, on the other hand, is being repositioned as a youth-centered, reform-driven party ahead of the next general election.

Political observers are keen to see whether ADC can leverage this momentum into a meaningful electoral impact.

COPDEM organizers say this session of the People’s Parliament will be one of the most interactive and hard-hitting yet.
