LAGOS, Nigeria — Heirs Life Assurance has appointed Jerry Eze, founder and lead pastor of Streams of Joy International Ministry, as an independent non-executive director on its board, effective August 10.

The insurance company announced the appointment in a statement on Monday, saying it was part of efforts to strengthen consumer trust, promote financial inclusion and encourage wider adoption of insurance products in Nigeria.

Eze’s appointment brings a prominent figure from the faith and social development space into the governance structure of the insurance company. As an independent non-executive director, he is expected to contribute to the board’s oversight functions while maintaining independence from the company’s executive management.

Heirs Life Assurance said the decision reflects its broader commitment to deepening public confidence in the insurance sector and expanding access to insurance services across the country.

The company noted that consumer trust remains important to the growth of insurance adoption, particularly in a market where a significant proportion of Nigerians remain outside formal insurance coverage. It said strengthening confidence in insurance providers would be critical to encouraging more individuals and businesses to embrace insurance as part of their financial planning.

The appointment also comes amid growing efforts within Nigeria’s financial services sector to promote financial inclusion and make insurance products more accessible to a wider population. Industry stakeholders have increasingly emphasised the need for stronger public awareness and innovative approaches to encourage Nigerians to understand and utilise insurance services.

Eze, through his leadership of Streams of Joy International Ministry, has built a substantial public profile and a large following, particularly through religious broadcasting and digital platforms. His appointment is expected to bring his experience in community engagement and public communication to the board.

As an independent non-executive director, his role will not involve the day-to-day management of the company. Instead, he will serve alongside other board members in providing oversight, strategic guidance and independent perspectives on matters concerning the organisation.

The company said the appointment aligns with its objective of building a stronger relationship with consumers while supporting the expansion of insurance penetration in Nigeria.

Heirs Life Assurance is part of the Heirs Holdings group and provides life insurance products to individuals and businesses. The company has continued to position financial inclusion and customer-focused insurance solutions as important components of its operations.

The appointment takes effect on August 10, with the company expected to draw on Eze’s public engagement experience as it continues efforts to strengthen consumer confidence and expand participation in Nigeria’s insurance market.
