Helicopter discovers 6 strategic Fulani camps in Anambra

The Governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano said that his administration has been collaborating with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies.

They aim to fight crimes in the state, including the dangers of the Fulani herdsmen attacks on citizens.

That was the reason he incorporated aerial surveillance of the state and her border communities using helicopters in the security arrangement of the state.

The aerial surveillance exercise has been up and running.

This move, according to the Governor is to identify major Fulani herdsmen settlements, other crime spots and general security-posed challenges in and around the state on a round the clock basis.

He revealed that through the exercise, 6 different Hausa/Fulani blocs have been identified around the state but very close to its borders.

He reassured the people of the state of a 24-hour round the clock Maximum Security for their lives and property.

The governor said that the state government has already commissioned the state chapter of the Miyetti Allah.

Miyetti Allah is a Fulani group that coordinates the activities of the Fulani Cattle breeders.

Obiano mandated them to visit the blocs to intimate the herdsmen on the agreed modus operandi for their cattle to graze in the state.

This agreement, he revealed was developed by a Committee he set up early in the life of his administration.

It mandates the Herdsmen to pay full compensation when their cows destroy crops or property belonging to host communities.

Meanwhile the communities in turn will pay compensation for any cow that they kill as well.

He also said the group has been charged to warn the herdsmen that none of them should carry AK47 rifles, guns and or any other dangerous weapons.

He added that any body found with such weapon will face due prosecution.

Obiano noted that the agreement which was already in operation in the state has been driving the peace and harmony that exist between Ndi Anambra and the Herdsmen.

He said “so far both parties have kept to their sides of the bargain”.

He, however, debunked the rumour last week of an attack on Ogbunike community by the Fulani Herdsmen.

Governor Obiano urged Ndi Anambra to desist from peddling such rumours capable of inciting people into violence.

He said Anambra is now the safest state in the country and that his administration will consolidate on the efforts that guaranteed the feat in ensuring the continued protection of the lives and property of natives and residents alike.
