Imo bleeds as bomb blast kills 5, injures scores

On Tuesday, a bomb explosion rocked Ubaheze Market in Awo Idemili, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, killing at least five people and leaving many others injured.

According to media reports, the blast occurred around 11am as traders were just opening their shops and getting ready for the day.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific with dead bodies littering the ground and wounded individuals lying in pools of blood.

“We opened the market around 11 a.m., traders were seen bringing out their goods, and suddenly what we heard was an explosion that rocked the entire market,” a witness recounted.

“Structures in the market were blown into pieces as woods, zincs, and other items were seen flying all over the place. Many traders were killed by the bomb explosion, including children,” the eyewitness added.

Meanwhile, the cause of the explosion and those responsible remain unclear.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement in respect to the unfortunate development.
